Could you do some modern day Soda headcanons please? I love him so much and I love your blog so much soooooo….
Ok so soda is tricky for me to write but I tried my best!!!
Modern Au Sodapop Headcanons
-Drinks every single energy drink imaginable. Rockstar? Like its water. Prime? For the plot. 5 hour energy? He’ll down it in five seconds. Darry is HORRIFIED.
-Is pretty enough he’s one of those people who becomes moderately famous on TikTok without having to really do much. His followers notice he’s always talking to someone off camera, and they’re desperate to find out who it is, but Soda only ever responds to comments with ‘oh that’s just Stevie, he doesn’t like TikTok’.
-Soda’s followers have a lot of theories about this ‘Stevie’. Soda is weirdly tight lipped about him, despite the fact he often breaks off mid rant in videos to talk to him. There’s also the fact that the rest of the gang is often around/in the background of videos, but the mysterious ‘Stevie’ never appears. (okok I’ll stop here before this becomes a Stevepop social media au)
-Regularly forgets to take his ADHD meds and Darry often has to remind him
-Would either have a hockey flow or a mullet (whatever y’all think, personally I think modern Soda with a hockey flow tracks with his character)
-One of those people who loves horror movies but is also completely terrified of even the dumbest ones and has to sleep with the lights on for weeks afterwards. Steve makes fun of him for it, but will also stay up on the phone with him if Soda watches one by himself and freaks himself out
-Has a million fidget spinners because they actually help him focus on stuff when he needs to
-Soda in modern AU wouldn’t call Ponyboy ‘kid brother’ as a nickname (don’t get me wrong, I love it but Ive never heard it used irl). Instead, I think him and Darry (and thus the rest of the gang) refer to Pony as ‘shrimp’ and Ponyboy absolutely hates it  “where’s the shrimp” “he’s has track practice ‘till four, you of all people should know that Dar” (brought to you by me and my interactions with my own little brothers)
-The whole gang is super into video games, but Soda is kind of shit at them and lowkey grumpy about it
-Every teacher he’s ever had has done that thing where they expect him to be exactly like his older sibling, and therefore expect him to be a model student like Darry, and every time they are proven entirely wrong. By the time the same teachers see Ponyboy’s name on their class lists they’re terrified of what to expect
-He definitely had that horrible middle school boy stage where he just reeked of axe body spray and BO before he figured out proper hygiene
-Every two weeks him and Steve end up doing some sort of YouTube deep dive where they end up being convinced of some sort of wild conspiracy theory that Ponyboy and sometimes Darry have to spend three hours talking them out of
-Uses far too many emojis in texts
-He had a pet hamster once and you know that thing died in the most horrendous way imaginable. Two-bit probably farted into the cage at one point as a joke and the poor thing asphyxiated to death or some shit like that
-He’s that kid in group projects who does nothing and tanks the presentation for everyone by mispronouncing half the words on the slides some other group member made for him
-Him and Steve are so inseparable that when they’re not together people will be like ‘where’s your boyfriend’ and he just answers without thinking before flushing really hard and sputtering a bit.
-One of those people that casually catches snakes with his bare hands. Steve HATES it and Ponyboy is TERRIFIED of snakes so he gets in trouble with Darry if he does it too often or brings them near the house

TW!!! — blood, scarring and mild body horror ahead 🥲
benny’s turn!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
before i start i wanna clarify i hesitated a bit on posting this because lovely mutual @vor-leser just posted his benny interpretation (go look at it and follow him btw), and idk if we like mind melded or smth but our human benny’s are super similar LOL. i damn near scrapped the whole thing out of fear someone would get mad at me but i Would Not be able to start over and get this done ever so this is as good as we’re gonna get. 😭 my apologies niko love u /p
this has been like a full 7 days in the making 😭😭 the art block that i felt coming on while doing ellen and ted hit me like an optimus prime sized semi truck this week along with a depressive episode so i definitely appreciate that happening and i am not upset about it at all! /s i’m totally good so don’t worry or anything /gen, mental health is just weird and i also wanted to explain the gap in my posts 😔
i do not know how to feel about this drawing if i’m so fr with you; i’m proud of myself for AM-ified benny cause i think i got the slowly rotting from the inside out primal freak energy down pretty good, but on the other hand this feels kinda empty?? i usually have a lot more commentary squished in here but i think my brain’s a little fried 🤦‍♂️ i love drawing me some beautiful buff men though so drawing normal ben was familiar territory. however his wack ass haircut i gave him is his punishment for being a PRICK!!! go sit in the corner and think about ur actions benjamin.
like ted n the rest of the sillies i’m not straying too far from canon with his personality, he’s an ass and a murderer and a hella smart dickhead who desperately needs to be punished by the universe (thank you for that one AM). hot take i did not like his redemption arc” in his game scenario and i don’t think with how he was throughout the entirety of his life (and also throughout the game, main example his inner dialogue) he would actually go out of his way to help the kid because he means it??? n prove he changed to the guys he killed cause he means it??? i dunno maybe AM torturing him made him have a main character “omg i’ve been in the wrong this whole time!!1” moment like the game suggests i’m just not buying it 💀 i’m sure it’s just cause bennys scenario couldn’t be too long and they couldn’t fully flesh him out which i won’t fault the game makers for. i’m a steven universe fan, i know what time constrictions can do to a plot and redemption arc 😭 looking at you white diamond…
his wife n kids are up top and they’re kinda neat to me— i was considering the hc that part of the reason manya (his canon wife) left him is because she realized she was a lesbian which would be funny as fuck considering benny’s also One Of Them Queers 😭. i think during the brief times he was home and able to parent his daughters they got really scared and tired of him, one because he’s just a very threatening powerful and overbearing man, but also because i feel like he would’ve been on their ASS about everything. grades, extracurriculars, friends, wardrobe, this guy was micromanaging his family to an annoying extreme (ofc because of his perfectionist complex). he probably loved manya and the kids in his own weird way, but it was more contractual to him than any real personal relationship. maybe he inherited that from his own parents?? i doubt he ever talked to them after he moved out.
that’s about the end of my thoughts on this fucker. 🥲 funny storyyyy i just remembered i have laundry to finish so im gonna go do that, lord help me. thank you for reading all this if you did!!!!! we’re over halfway through so who do yall want next? wanna save AM or nimdok for last? i’ll see u guys later :]]]

Feral for affection uncanny vash or knives.
🌻have a good day
Hi there Sunflower Anon! I'm going to call you that, especially if you come back again with another sunflower. Thanks for the ask!!
I've seen the uncanny Vash and Knives stuff blow up in popularity. I Was there. Though sometimes I feel it's disingenuous to call them uncanny--that's our human interpretation of their forms. Maybe something more along the lines of primal? Well, syntax aside, I think it's a super fun idea to lean more into the alien ideals of Plants. I have plenty of my own headcanons for how the two look and operate, but, let's not focus on that right now. Let's just get affectionate!
Vash and Knives x Reader: Affections (Uncanny ver.)
Content Warnings: General uncanny or possibly unnerving content ahead. Features like multiple eyes/limbs/etc. are discussed, and there may be an implicit body horror to it. No violence, though! Just cuteness aside from all that!
Tumblr media
Vash
Tumblr media
I think Vash is pretty hesitant at first to show you any sort of uncanny parts of himself. I mean, we already know how he feels about his scars--he really doesn't want to scare you off, especially once you two have become close.
But if you can slowly and gently coax him out of his shell, if you can convince him that yes, you'll love every part of him, no matter how ugly he may think those parts are, he'll eventually relent.
And at first, it's just a few features that pop out. It might be reflective, glowy eyes in the nighttime, or fingers that have grown out just a little too long for the average man, or even a few spiny scutes along his back.
Once he's comfortable, though? He lets it all hang out. Not like that--he just allows his true form to come through. And there's lots of limbs and even some sharp edges to deal with... But if you're patient, you'll find he's maybe even more affectionate like this!
Cuddles end up the best because now instead of two (sometimes one, if he has the prosthetic off) arms around you, it's six (more like five!) and you are ever-so-tightly squeezed against his body. He also has a very comfortable temperature, so you never have to worry about being too hot or too cold. It's just right!
Purring. Yes, I know it's cliché, I know that it's mentioned in every imagine, but come on. It's so cute. I don't think it's like animal purring, though, maybe more like an engine. Or perhaps more akin to a larger cat purring. Less cutesy, more... well, rumbly. Sometimes it makes his whole body vibrate.
With his extra appendages, he loves to tickle you. Prepare to be bombarded with tickles. He's able to dance across your skin so fast that you can barely catch him in time to try and swat him away.
Kisses! He tries to be so careful with kisses since his jaw can unhinge and all that. And lots of teeth get in the way. But if you don't mind that... Or perhaps, if you're into that... Well, you can definitely start experimenting. But he's still as gentle as possible.
Knives
Tumblr media
Now this is someone who's not afraid to show you their true self. Knives is going to quickly reveal his primal form to you. If you can't learn to get comfortable with it, he's obviously not for you. (It begs the question as to why he keeps a more humanoid form too--maybe it's just easier to get around in human-sized spaces with?)
No matter your initial reaction, I think he's going to make some kind of comment. You get scared? Typical human. You like it? Disgusting. You act as utterly neutral as possible? Don't lie to yourself. There's seriously no winning with him.
But with whatever charm (or perhaps sheer persistence) you give, the two of you are a pair now. And if there's one word to describe how he acts with you? It's protective.
If you two are ever out and about, he's got a sharp, bright wing curled over and around you, shielding from peering eyes. On the outside, it's all points and blades (and knives?) but on the inside, only for you to see, there's some softer, more downy feathers. Just so you won't rust up the blades, whatever you say, Knives.
His conscious self isn't keen to showing affection, but his subconscious body sure is. Expect a few tingly vines trying to wrap around and hold your hand, or a tail-like appendage that rests on your waist/shoulders, or a wing tickling your cheek. He swears he isn't doing it intentionally.
Unlike his brother, he's not a super affectionate guy, as stated above, so don't expect much in the way of kisses. Unless the two of you are alone, and he's in a better-than-usual mood. Then his cravings might get the better of him, and he might just tackle on top of you to bite a chunk out of you--I mean, get a few sloppy kisses in.
Overall? In front of others, relatively distant. Behind closed doors? You're becoming his. Tight tendrils keep you close at night, teeth nibble at the nape of your neck, the sharp edges of leaves or feathers tease your skin but never come too close. He's too precise to actually ever hurt you.
Tumblr media
End Notes: I think their "true" forms are something akin to an insectoid/angelic/plant-like mix, where it's sort of indescribable, archaic, tangled and messy. Maybe I ought to draw them and show you all...~
Also, there REALLY need to be more 1998 Knives gifs, or I'm about to pony up and just make a buttload of my own.
Okay, last note. Sorry this took me a while! I just moved back into college and my first week was busy! (^人^)

Supposedly, people with Anphantasia don't get scared reading scary stories, or at least not much. Is that true with you if you ever read Horror?
You know, I'd never thought about it, but I suppose it is. To an extent, anyway.
Follows a discussion of my relationship to horror prose and media; if you don't know what aphantasia is, as many people coming to this tumblr don't, I have a tag for it here that may help -- it's basically the lack of a "mind's eye", a visual imagination, so I hear/read things and don't see an image of them in my mind. If you are scoffing right now that nobody actually has a mind's eye, congratulations, you may also have aphantasia. The articles linked in the tag will be useful to you.
I have definitely been scared by prose before but it's very rare, and not much since I was a child, when the stories I found scary were preying on fears I already had. I loved the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books, and I think it's not unusual that I found the illustrations more frightening than the prose, but the only story that ever scared me was the one about the vampire who kept trying to grab a kid through a window -- because I had a window over my bed in my childhood bedroom and I was terrified I'd look up to see someone looking down at me through it. Likewise, as an adult, the only content in horror I find scary is what I think of as "mind horror" -- the loss of faculty or the loss of awareness of faculty (think the end scene of the novel Hannibal with the brain). Which is one of my biggest fears.
I don't read much horror because generally I get bored, which has in the past made me feel faintly appalled at myself, but which now makes more sense. Certainly I have no interest in slasher-style gore in prose, because I find it uninteresting and it goes on a really long time, while I don't watch it in movies/TV because the visual is upsetting -- so if I was getting the visual from the prose I might react more emotionally. I am a fan of Stephen King but mostly his early work where he was shorter on suspense, and I was reading it because I liked the ideas and the characters. Carrie is super interesting because of the personalities involved, not because of the violence or the horror aspects. But I've never seen a movie adaptation and I can imagine I would be deeply unsettled if not distraught by certain scenes if depicted visually. Although I didn't find the Hannibal TV series super upsetting (I mostly was put off by how bad I imagined Will smelled) so perhaps body horror just doesn't do it for me.
This may also explain my hard-no on zombie media, because I'm not scared at all of zombies, I just find them boring and gross, and that leaves the post-apocalyptic humans. My hard-no on post-apocalypse anything is an aversion to imagining the end of my world, though, which isn't visual, it's conceptual, and not scary, just upsetting.
Like, people kept suggesting Zombies Run! to me when I was taking up running and -- well, one, I needed the music to keep my pace, I didn't want it interrupted. But two, I didn't see why a bunch of random groaning noises would make me run faster. If you could see zombies chasing you in your head, yeah, that'd probably be more motivating.
It kind of explains too why I haven't written much horror. I used to be very curious about how people worked out what's "scary" in horror prose and I guess part of the curiosity came from not experiencing it myself. It's tough to know how to write a scary story when stories don't scare you.
To be clear, I definitely experience fear. Reading Stephen King's "It" didn't really scare me, but there were scary moments in the film adaptations. I startle at jumpscares. There's plenty of stuff in real life that I'm scared of. And even podcasts -- I don't get mental images during podcasts like apparently most people do, but Magnus Archives got me with the "digging into your pre-existing fears" thing once or twice, and while I didn't finish The Left Right Game (I just got bored) the hitchhiker scene definitely got me. But I think, unless it's playing on something conceptual that already existed, yeah, I don't find prose particularly frightening.
Huh. This feels like the kind of thing that could have a significant impact on my creative output if I could crowbar my way into it. Knowing that I as an aphantic don't need descriptions that other people do has already, I think, impacted my editing process, but this feels like it maybe would somehow have an effect on the whole thing -- the fact that I don't experience emotions when reading in the same way other people do because I don't get the visuals is something to meditate on.
How the fuck did I ever even become a writer. Like what's up with that.
(Ironically it was X-Files fanfic. X-Files, a show that very much did scare me, for which I wrote and read a lot of fanfic, none of which did...yikes. Well, that's something to meditate on for the weekend.)

hello!!!! its been so long i apologize so ☹️ ive been fighting demons and going through story book worthy horrors, but its all okay!!!!
but for 📷 anons surprising comeback,
hear me out, its one piece time woah, little ace with the whitebeards. that kid would totally hid his regression for as long as he could, especially during the time before ace joined the crew. only to be found out either via a meltdown, or very shortly after he officially joined due to a slip up.
real nap time kid. a nap time is always inevitable with ace, whether it be because his narcolepsy or marco trying to push one because ace is getting wayy to fussy for this busy crew.
i also have the headcanon that his devil fruit is just out of control this boy is setting everything on fire, unlucky for the crew because, yknow, they live on a wooden ship.
i feel like hes has a pretty large range of ages he can regress too but normally stays pretty small. 1-3 maybe? definitely kinda kid to insist he can do everything by himself but then melts and gives up the moment hes shown some positive affection. give him a pacifier when its clear he wants one? so over for him. one of the chefs giving him a spill proof cup? knockout. pick him up when hes too small to properly walk himself? hes ran out of lives.
ouh the imagery of someone like marco or thatch holding a very very sleepy ace and ace having his fingers in his mouth and just the other person taking them out of his mouth and replacing them with a pacifier and everyones like woah! howd u do that without him having a tantrum and the person holding him is just like oh im just that good ig IM CRYING INYO MY PILLOW hes actually just a baby i cant even handle it
THE CREW CALLING BABY ACE LITTLE FLAME EVERY BODY SHUT UP AND LET ME COOK
i feel like ace id definitely a fussy baby though especially when he regresses older, ace has a lot of childhood trauma its bound to reflect in his behavior while regressed☹️☹️
okay im done brfore i make this longer than it already is, i hope you enjoy!! ive missed doin this so much omg☹️
📷
I was actually just thinking of you recently! It’s nice to hear from you. Though it’s not so nice to hear that you have been going through such a hard time. As someone who just got over a very hard couple of months I understand completely. Sending you a hug and I will pray in the name of Jesus for your strength and peace. If you ever want to reach out and dm me to vent or talk you can. No pressure of course <3
~~~
Okay one piece time hehe :3
~My vote is 100% for being found out due to a meltdown. Mostly because I like angst hehe >:3
“You need a nap!” “I do not.” “Well just come lay down for a moment. If you don’t fall asleep then you can get back up… Ace?” (Ace meanwhile already asleep)
“because, yknow, they live on a wooden ship.”
<- Pfft okay that made me laugh
~It’s like letting a child play with matches only you can’t take them away.
~Coping mechanism for Ace/ anxiety inducing for everyone else on board
~Oh no but why did I just think of the saddest thing ever is getting really frustrated and one of his stuffed animals or toys catches on fire. He would be devastated and probably hate himself for a long while.
“insist he can do everything by himself but then melts and gives up the moment hes shown some positive affection”
<- Awww that’s so cute!!
~Grumpiest affection starved baby. Insisting that he’s a lot older than he really is and it only takes a time bit of patience and coddling to get him to regress super small.
Marco: Yup I’m just the best caregiver ever isn’t that right bud? Ace meanwhile: (sleepy baby babbles)
~Sometimes he’s super small and he just cries and no one know how to comfort him because nothing seems to be wrong he’s just fussy and flinches away from people and overall is just miserable
Read these first while regressed and this absolutely made little me giddy. Thank you for sharing beloved I’ve missed getting to read all your thoughts <3
Movie Night With Your Eccentric Older Brother Simulator (Free Weird Movies Recs)
So I've always had a vague awareness of the archetype surrounding an Alt Older Brother who introduces you to weird media. I have no real-life frame of reference for this person. While I was close to my actual older brother for a long time, I don't think he introduced me to much.
But after finding that list of free movies and realizing the link to Evil Dead II was a podcast video about the movie as opposed to the actual movie, I decided to put together my own list of cult/weird movies. Nothing too intense. It's got some horror, but it's not all horror. Consider this a way to LARP a kind of skeevy older brother with a strange inner world who you idolize despite him clearly not doing super great right now. He loves you in a weird, scruffy way that he doesn't like to talk about in precise language.
(EDIT: Also I did go out of my way to pick kind of shitty VHS rips for some of these. I do consider them the ideal way to view them. For immersion's sake.)
Uh, hey man. So Mom and Dad left for some fuckin' - I don't know, I still had half my headphones on so I wasn't really paying attention. But they're gone for the night and I guess I'm in charge or whatever. They said I could use their card to order pizza which is pretty sick. I'll order one for each of us, and then I'll just hole up in the basement to listen to The Flower Kings and -
What? You wanna hang out?
No, that's - yeah, I guess I did make a face. My bad. Um, sure I can hang. I know you've been kind of bummed lately. I guess we could watch a movie if you want. No, dude, step the fuck away from the DVD shelf. If I have to watch Click one more goddamned time I'm gonna' blow my brains out.
I'm kidding. That was a joke. Don't tell Mom I said that. Also, scroll through this. These are all the deep cuts my friends at community college have been collecting while we stay out late and smoke - meats. Yeah - my bros Skeet and Blazer? They're big...big barbecue fans. Yeah.
Stop looking at me, dude, just pick a movie.
Pink Floyd's The Wall (1982)
Oh fuck yeah. Uh, no it's not the album. I mean, it's technically the album - but remember how I told you that The Wall is a Rock Opera? This is the visual adaptation of that Rock Opera. It's got the whole album - complete with a short song from The Final Cut which is another Pink Floyd that came out after The Wall but has a lot of the same themes. This thing has some fuckin' killer animations by Gerald Scarfe. It's a pretty intense take on modern masculinity and fame in post-war Britain from someone with direct experience in all of that.
Evil Dead II (1987) and Armies of Darkness (1992)
What? It's Sam Rami, dude, of course there's gore. It's a Sam Rami movie that isn't Spiderman, so there's a ton of gore and jump scares. No but like - they aren't good jump scares and the gore is absolutely nonsense. It's a horror comedy but it's pretty heavy on the comedy, you know? In Evil Dead II (No, you don't need to start with the first one. The first act of Evil Dead II is a remake of The Evil Dead.) the main guy Ash has his hand turn evil, so he cuts it off and replaces it with a chainsaw.
Shut the fuck up, man, it's not spoilers. It's barely top five in crazy shit that happens in this movie. It's awesome though Bruce Campbell is like horror Mister Bean. He's also hot as fuck. Nevermind. Forget I said that.
Hellraiser (1987)
Seriously, if you pick this you can't tell Mom and Dad I let you watch it. Well, I don't think it's scary, but the practical effects are pretty hardcore for its time and I remember you were pretty upset when you came in and hid in my room while Skeet and I were watching The Thing.
It's pretty gory. It's a body horror film. But aside from some retro-horror staples it's definitely not - like - realistic gore. It's like a guy will die because he gets exploded by chains from goth BDSM demons. Then he's resurrected but he's got no skin and he's kind of bitchy about it for a while. It's pretty cool. Pretty - um - it's got pronouns, you know? It's - I can't call it gay, right? No, it's literally gay. Clive Barker is a gay man. This is a pretty queer horror series.
Shock Treatment (1981)
So Jim Sherman and Richard O'Brien made Rocky Horror Picture Show. They then made an AU of their own movie musical - which is this movie, Shock Treatment. Call me a contrarian, but I like this one a bit better. RHPS is great, but it's so overwhelmingly Tim Curry that it does drown out everything else. This seems like a bit more of an ensemble cast where you can really enjoy the whole movie. Plus their song "Bitchin' in the Kitchen" is like one of my favorite musical songs.
Paprika (2006)
Satoshi Kon is easily one of the best animators of all time. He's the same guy that did Perfect Blue, but that's a little bit more of an intense watch (Although is you do decide to do it do not watch the dubbed version. I'm not being a 'subs not dubs' weeb again the ending was so subtle that the dub fucked it up). Paprika is fantastic It's a beautifully animated science-fiction adventure akin to Inception if Inception was led by a cool lady. It's gorgeous.
Synechdoche, New York (2008)
Charlie Kaufman is one of those directors who people think encourage Angsty Indie White Guys, even though all of his movies specifically focus on how pathetic Angsty Indie White Guys are. This is a big one, but it's beautiful and I've seen it five times. Every time it leaves me quiet and thoughtful. If we watch this and I cry you aren't allowed to say shit about it.
Sorry to Bother You (2018)
This is a surrealist, sci-fi black comedy by writer/director, rapper, and communist activist Boots Riley. it's pretty crazy right off the get go. It's cool to see a blatantly anti-capitalist speculative fiction story that isn't - like - blatantly ideological. It definitely has the ideology, but not at the sacrifice of great writing and directing and a really fun story.
How's that film major I'm dating? Kai is fine. Kai's cool. Kai's...enough about Kai.
Brazil (1985)
This is like 1984 but in the hands of the most creative Monty Python guys. It is crazy how creative this movie is. Like early Tim Burton. Just chaotic and hilarious and horrifying. It's awesome.
But I'm getting sick of talking. Would you pick something already?
You picked: Dancer in the Dark (2000)
The...the fucking Lars Von Trier musical starring Bjork? The that starts with Bjork playing a poor immigrant mother who's slowly going blind and struggling to make ends meet and only gets far sadder from there?
You're getting into Bjork? Now? In 2024 you're just now deciding to get into - ?
Nope. That's fine. I said you can pick, so you can pick. I'll warn you though. this thing's like two and a half hours long and I'm going to spend most of it weeping. If I see you even quiver a laugh I will doxx you online I swear to god.
wanna make a little rumble about this two funny guys, nothing much, just a rumble really, if you would read it to the end it would be cool 👉👈 but you don't have to! two hats spoilers too be ready
so, sif and loop, huh
Tumblr media
a lot of people under my comic with this two did mentioned that I've wrote them super DID or like a system and I didn't noticed that at the time, but more I thought about it, the more I understand that I did it again
the whole idea of them being in one body is just really sells this, to be honest. with sif being in control most of the time and loop kinda existing their life together, because in fact it's their life too. they both understand that, even though loop didn't feel quiet belonging here, like they doesn't exactly deserve this life. after all - they fail, fail miserably, it's a sif who is a hero of this story in the end, but also they don't exactly get it that it's because of them sif succeeded. just a small change, a person who can listen and say something. who is changing with you, a helping hand
sif is a grounded reminder for loop that they succeeded, in a way, too. and everyone around them too
also in my hc loop and sif doesn't tell their family at first about this all, it's just.. awkward and too much information and also it's just two sifs and their problems with expressing themselves. well, they learning!! a little!! especially after this wild experience!!!
but everyone still notice that sif is sometimes can change their behavior. I see loop as someone who can be mean, they doesn't exactly afreid of showing negative emotions anymore such as anger and they WILL fight if they will see that sif or someone from their family being mistreated, or make a very nasty commentary, or anything, but very passive aggressively. Their family at first thinks that mb it's just a trauma response, wich is particularly true, but I think Odile and/or Isa would notice that there is certain pattern to Siffrin behavior and it's definitely Someone Else
Tumblr media
In Isa case he would probably notice that this Certain Someone has very similar mannerisms with Sifrin, to how they move and act, to how they just talk. differents comes to what they talk. when sif is more lighthearted and silly, loops jokes can sometimes be a little bit on the self doubt side, and harsh to themselves, and their tone can feel a little more official
Odile would try to confront Sif a lot with little questions (because she was observing Loop and Sif sometimes act like them!!!! you think it's a coincidence?????) but she trust Sifrin to tell her if there is something wrong, (after all they had this talk), and Sif in her eyes looks much more happier (well, she has only one comparison with this one day before king but she can imagine how much worse it was + loop probably told a lot), so she understands that there is something but it's isn't bad and Sif just need time
Loop sometimes attend in the Emotional Buddies Club with Mira, too, because usually Sif makes them (they thinks it's very important for them too (it is)). and usually loop is trying to mimic siffrin a lot, but sometimes fails miserably and trails off. they still can say it's something from the loops and thing, but Mira also notice how sometimes Sif just change mid sentence because Sif just kicks Loop and let's them talk
and bonbon is just bonbon, Loop really loves spending their time with bonbon and trying all sorts of different things they cook. different NEW things.
tho not one of them can stomach the banana ever again. it's a nice fruit, but when the smell hits... they both would probably tell this story to their family, and while they would nervously giggle a little - their family would be a little in shock. just one of the horror from the loops they grew accustomed to. and their family doesn't exactly like that
Tumblr media
also I think that loop still can matterialise their body if situation deems necessary, it was their body now, after all, and they grew quite fond of their mystic nature. but when looking at the mirror they see sifrin and themselves - they really put in question if they need any body at all
also as a fun bonus idea shadow's that I drew may be just a thing in their head, like they aren't real, they just show who is in control and who isn't. or they may be a real thing and sometimes their family would notice this funky spike shadow on the ground and , what??
haha, thank you for reading if u are here
Hi so if you feel like it. Do you have any starter horror recommendations for someone who wants to watch more horror but is a wuss about it. For context I have an extra hard time with gore/body horror. Guy with knife much scarier than ghosts/demons/etc. Anything more thesis-horror is helpful because thinking about the thesis distracts me from the Scared. Weird/insane/unhinged women are borderline mandatory.
Again just if you feel like it but if you do thanks a bunch in advance!!!
hmmmmm okay. let me look at my letterboxd. gonna cut this one for lenght.
oddity - from my memory pretty light on blood guts etc. there's really only one scene where you see like. blood splatter. iirc. i thought it was really beautifully shot. ghosts AND guys with knives.
red rooms - there's literally one visible shot of "yuck" (bones) in the first 15? minutes but it revolves around a trial for murder so there are yknow. people detailing gruesome acts out loud but theres literally only the one shot in the whole thing. awesome women in this one. guys with knives.
creep + creep 2 - as far as a i remember more of a suspense thing than blood and guts. and also really good! crazy woman in 2. guy with knives.
hell house llc - i watched this one today and really liked it for what it is. there's one scene towards the end with blood but that's really it the rest of it is suspense. ghosts.
crimson peak - awesome. women in it. ghosts. i dont remember there being a ton of blood? people die in it but i dont think any of it is like. on screen close up on wounds. ghosts.
it follows - ghosts. i do remember going yeek! at one of the ghost forms. the soundtrack is great.
stoker is showing up when i sort by horror which i dont think is true. but it does rule and it does have nicole kidman in it and is in comparison to horror as a genre light on gore. women
whatever happened to baby jane another one that letterbox is calling horror that i dont necessarily agree with. but definitely OK as far as yuck goes. no yuck #noyuck. women
lake mungo - kind of a normie pick as far as tumblr rec goes. shows up on a lot of ppl's fav lists. shows up on a lot of lists for women in horror. ghosts. no blood guts even a little bit just ghosts that look creepy
poltergeist - as far as i remember really really tame. ghosts. obvs.
psycho + psycho 2. well its psycho innit. so.
signs - aliens in there.
the craft - witches. women. i dont remember it being a super gross one?
night of the living dead - it's literally night of the living dead
i grew up watching the old universal horror movies. wolfman invisible man mummy frankenstein dracula creature from the black lagoon etc. which i do think are worth watching.
looking at this list realizing i watch a lot of stuff that's very what if there was a fucked up guy. anyway. those i think are pretty safe bets in terms of. light on blood/body horror. if you feel braver. well.
bodies bodies bodies - not a scary movie just a silly one where people are dying. there is blood in it though. so. women
talk to me - ghosts. i liked it a lot. there is like. head slamming into a table repeatedly so hard someone goes into a coma though. woman
malignant - sillayyyyyyy. but quite bloody. kind of ghosts themed
12 hour shift - dont remember how much blood is in this one but it centers on organ trafficking so probably some. i remember liking it a lot tho. no ghosts. woman
us - scared the shit out of me the first time i watched it. no ghosts but . not classical guy with knife either. but quite good. woman
hereditary - theres blood in this one. sometimes things that are lauded are good. sorry.
raw - blood. but really good. and #women
cabin in the woods - blood in there but it is i think probably my favorite referential horror comedy.
jennifer's body - yeah you know it. dont need to say more
the descent - really fucking good really fucking scary people's bodies get fucked up. women movie of all time
28 days later - i liked it. i dont remember much about it but i liked it when i watched it. zombies
eight legged freaks - sillayyyyy. giant spiders
ginger snaps - classic for a reason. women. e blood
candyman - the original reallyyyyy good. havent seen the new one but the original incredibly good.
reanimator + bride of reanimator - silly one. with some. um. one blood. two. body horror. three. content warnings.
frankenhooker - nother silly one. with moderate very silly gore.
tremors - creature movie. silly. fun.
lair of the white worm - creature movie. awesome
killer klowns from outer space - quiteeeee silly dont remember where it falls on gore even a little bit.
hellraiser - i rmemeber it being good. but i mean. species of demons called pinhead. due to having pins, in their heads,
nightmare on elm street 1/2/3. one you kind of have to watch. 2 is bonkers homophobic it's awesome. 3 is just fun. demons. i guess.
the hitcher - guy with knives. blood. pretty cool though.
the thing - body horror as fuck. but really good. creatures
american werewolf in london - gore + body horror but quite good.
friday the 13th. i liked it! kind of guy with knives by definition tho
phantom of the paradise - another silly one. dont remember the blood content but its quiteeee silly and fun i liked it a lot
long legs - i liked it, but there's deffo blood in it, and i also think it should probably be watched in a theatrical setting to enjoy it.
my watchlist, which i havent watched, and cant vouch for:
may (women)
titane (women)
hatching (women)
August September LGBTQIA book list.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now quick disclaimer: I moved during this time. Very stressful. So maybe that’s why I have so many dropped and disliked books. I’m going to give these quick reviews in a specific order of would recommend to mehhh only if you are that type of person. I don’t give spoilers this is just a taste. I am lesbian who is 30 so that also colors my perception of these stories. Only going to include pics of the top 5 to drag you in for easy screenshotting.
Okay Let’s go.
1. Somewhere Beyond the Sea by Tj Klune 🏳️‍🌈👨🏼‍🍼👬🔥🏡⛓️‍💥 okay once again when I take over the world House in the Cerulean Sea and Somewhere Beyond the Sea will be required reading I didn’t think the follow up book to one of the best books in the modern age about feel good found family foster family could get any better. But I was proven wrong. The sequel gives you all you need. You can tell the author felt the pain of our world as he wrote this but the children and characters give those stories life. I cried I laughed. There is nothing quite like it.
2. The Spirit Bares It’s Teeth by Andrew Joseph White 🏳️‍⚧💕😱🩸👁️🐰 You know what I am putting this one as 2 because despite it making me have countless panic attacks because I’m not fond of… gore? Horror? I adored this book still thinking about it. The romance is 10/10 T4T. I adored the mystery and intrigue. The main character is autistic and very anxiety ridden I can’t describe to you how this book will change you. Although approach with caution.
3. The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish Vol2. 🏳️‍🌈🐟🤴🏻🤣 mild 🌶️ on a completely different note the “IS THAT MAN IN LOVE WITH A FISH” is a treat that always surprises me with the amount I love it. Maybe I am trash crazy but I find this funny easy to read and in this second book we got even more time with the fish and his prince actually in human shape. The miscommunication trope is strong with this one but so is consent and romance. Idk I just fucking love it. I want the prince to become emperor with his fishy lover haha.
4. The Name Bearer by Natalia Hernandez 💃💐🏳️‍🌈👩‍❤️‍👩💜💜 Okay quick disclaimer here the book is an classic style fantasy journey it is slow. However I really loved how beautifully thought out the universe was it’s a latinx woman forward book. The romance is not the point but it feels very natural which I appreciate. Main character might even be ace spec. There are great side characters. I really love the apprentice wizard but WARRIOR NUNS!!! Hehehe also things seem to be not what they seem which is always cool. I’d definitely suggest this to any fantasy lover.
5. Grandmaster of Demon Cultivation the comic vol 1-3 🏳️‍🌈👬🪄🪦💀🫏necromancer evil wizard is reincarnated into his nephew’s body years after his death. Or is he evil? Or is he 🏳️‍🌈? Hahah yes he is. Anyways in the present he’s finding the consequences of his actions while his…. Love interest is going to make sure nothing happens to this version of him. You slowly get the past. I find the comic is the easiest way to consume this fantasy story. Yes there is anime, book, and a Netflix series and a new Japanese manga is being released but I like this one. 🤷🏻‍♀️
6. Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire 💜🪦🚪 about a school for those who come back from other universes and long to go back. Main Character is probably ace spec. Very interesting fantasy book for someone who consumed a lot of fantasy as a child. Thought it was also very thoughtful book. I had fun it’s not super surprising or new ground but I enjoyed it for a quick read.
7. Spell Bound by FT Lukens 🏳️‍🌈🐈‍⬛🧙‍♀️🧑‍💻 well it’s YA. Out of the other FT Lukens books I semi enjoyed this one. The characters are still dumb as rocks and the setting could use some more fleshing. But it’s okay. For a fun quick read that semi reminds you of urban fantasy? It’s good. The side ship found family was a little forced but I enjoyed the side characters.
8. Psalm for the wild built 💜🍵🤖🏕️ it’s a chill cozy book for people who are over worked. I’d say if you want scifi it’s not. It’s closer to fantasy. Very short and preachy.
9. Casefile Compendium vol2 by Meatbun 🏳️‍🌈🩸🌶️🚩🔍🐉🥼 Danmei Murder mystery modern times age gap. Does have 2 chapters of non consent and absolutely off the wall opinions about the medical industry.
10. Otherworldly by FT Lukens 🧚‍♂️🏳️‍🌈🥶❄️ YA familiar escapes fairy world finds a skeptical person decides they’ll def fall in love and make a deal. I listened to 50% the characters are intensely idiotic and just…. So so so blind. I couldn’t do it. The skeptic is a person who moved to the city for their family but they do stuff for their family without really caring for them I’m just not buying it. The familiar is infact a psychopath or so low iq he doesn’t care to live or feel or observe anything in 5 years. So so so stupid. Omg.
I had several DNF
I made my parents listen to Ocean’s Echo by Everina Maxwell in my mission to make my parents less homophobic. My mom enjoyed it. My dad said it was way too gay. 😩 man I wish it was way too gay.
What am I reading next? Hummm idk yet. Suggestions are always appreciated!!!
Hii can I share a new Marcy Harm idea with you?? A sort of Raised in Amphibia AU with a twist - as soon as Andrias took little Marcy in, he realized she was insanely intelligent, like as a toddler and all she would beat him at flipwart and read complex science books and stuff, like this kid's IQ is through the ROOF. So being a bit of a sciency guy himself he thought, mmmm what if we exchange the Core's current digital hardware for a biological one? The human brain is stronger than any computer in the multiverse. Not only is he giving the Core a body, but a whole new level of software processing like this kid's grey matter is insaneeee just imagine all the weird immortal AI processes you can run in it!
So ever since she's little he basically grooms her into being the perfect host. She spends all her time either connected to weird wires that go deep into her nervous system to prepare her for the Core, or being made to solve puzzles and learn languages and do all of this stuff to exercise her brain. She's super young when the Core is transported into her and Marcy kinda... ceases to exist? She's vaguely conscious of her surroundings but it's not like she has any sense of self or awareness of what's going on. She's like an expectator who can't think feel or understand anything. Her brain is being used by someone else.
So when Anne and Sasha, who also grew up in Amphibia, eventually fight this big bad that's been threatening their world, they're surprised to find out it wasn't like... a robot or a newt in a weird suit, but a small human girl that looks roughly their age and can barely form a word and doesn't know her own name or what's going on. Their entire lives they thought they were the only two humans in Amphibia! They're definitely bringing this one over to the Plantars' farm. If only she could understand what's happening around her. She was a piece of hardware, right? She was a machine. She was vaguely aware of that. She was The Core, or at least its processing system. She doesn't know she's a person.
ohhh this reminds me a lot of my old omelas au except without utterly butchering the concepts of ursela k le guin's work. i LOVE it
and back when i was working on that au i went down a pretty disturbing wikipedia rabbit hole about what it would be like to try to recover from really extreme levels of mental neglect and lemme just say that after they free her . it would take something close to a miracle to let her live a normal life.
now that youve made me think abt this concept again tho i am GOING to be rotating it in my brain so very hard like. in my old fic i hadnt put much thought into how marcy had ended up in that situation but. now. i cant stop thinking about like . anne and sasha finally finding this other human and shes completely broken from being used like that for so so so long. seeing that done to someone. thats a level of horror worse than any of the scary wildlife in amphibia . andrias is SO fucking dead for this one
anyways just for fun heres the opening of the ones who walk away from newtopia. this is super super old. for context it was a human au + olivia is andrias's daughter in it.
Tumblr media
i never fully decided how much of this was marcy being used by the core to like. make its choices for how best to rule this utopia and how much it was some kinda karmic magic where all the suffering that would otherwise exist rested solely on her shoulders . but i think the implication was that she was gonna get the core fully downloaded into her at the end there? idk its been a long long time
ok i should probably go leave to go vote!!! yay!!! but i will be THINKING about this. oughhhh used as the cores computer her whole life thats good
ranking all the scary movies/shorts/TV I saw and the scary books/stories I read this spooky season (August - October)
Mr. Vampire (hilarious 80s kung fu-jiangshi-ghost bride movie from Hong Kong)
The Innocents (rewatched this beloved 60s British ghost movie about abandonment vs smothering, grief vs insanity)
Carrie (iconic 70s tragi-goofy sexploitation-turned-bloodbath movie)
The Beast in the Jungle (Henry James short story about the horror of missed opportunity, a la I Saw The TV Glow) (which would have been #1 but I saw it before my arbitrary cut off date)
Dracula + Spanish Dracula 1931 (rewatched beloved Dwight Frye vehicle + finally watched its filmed-by-night Spanish counterpart, and learned you gotta see them together)
The Curse of Frankenstein (finally watched some 50s Hammer horror with Peter Cushing as the nastiest Frankenstein ever and Christopher Lee as a pathetic wet cat)
Dracula (más Hammer with da boys)
The Way It Came (another Henry James that I especially liked for being strangely funny)
The Haunting of Bly Manor (rewatched beloved TV show and found more flaws in it this time, oops🙃 but it got me to read these Henry Jameses so 👏 and it still got me to cry 👏)
Boogeyman (free YouTube movie from 2005 that everyone thinks is terrible except for me, I thought it was absolutely fantastic, though that might have to do with all the parallels I was seeing to Attack of the Clones)
Personal Shopper (heartbreaking and beautiful Kristen Stewart vehicle)
American Psycho (the most disturbing book I've ever read, by far the most fucked thing here)
The Exorcist III (I never saw the first one but I skipped to part 3 for my man Brad Dourif and Blatty's always relatable spiritual torment)
Viy (super fun 60s Soviet man vs ghost lady movie)
Weeping Woman Way (I found a new Junji Ito at the library and this was my favorite story, as someone who used to cry all the fucking time)
The Romance of Certain Old Clothes (Henry James story about envy and repression, if you can believe it)
The Metamorphosis of Mr. Samsa (brilliant Canadian animation short from the 70s made by pushing sand around to give a swirling, wiggly feeling)
The Last Man on Earth (bleak and quite accurate Vincent Price adaptation of the Matheson novella)
Nightbreed (really fun Clive Barker "mean humans vs nice monsters" movie)
Dead Ringers (beautifully sad Cronenberg about the tragedy of utter codependence)
Scanners (an earlier Cronenberg about psychic connections, which is one of my favorite themes)
Society (fun rich people body horror cult movie with a fabulous finale; I thought the rest of it was quite touching too)
Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker (👏camp👏)
Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? (terrifying short story from the 60s about a demon kidnapper by Joyce Carol Oates from Twitter)
The Spirit Flow of Aokigahara (another great one from the Junji Ito book which has an evil mlm makeout and a totally fucked Logan Paul reference)
Minnie the Moocher (very very good Betty Boop, featuring rotoscoped Cab Calloway)
The Lord of the Rings (speaking of rotoscoped, Bakshi's wacky 70s animation which PJ kind of ripped off, kind of improved, but has its own fabulous character that had me weeping the nerdiest tears I've shed since like 2017)
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (weird and beautiful Thai movie from 2010 that definitely counts as existential horror)
We Have Always Lived in the Castle (people seem very critical of this 2018 adaptation of the Shirley Jackson novella, but I loved it, especially the way it so often keeps the camera on the fiercely protected ground)
Possession (weird European-y movie that is really good but I had a bit of a hard time getting into)
Isle of the Dead (slow 40s Boris Karloff movie with some fantastic agnostic angst)
The Curse of Dracular (very cute new claymation short a guy made for his dad)
Slumber (another Junji Ito, another on the theme of a psychic connection)
The Jolly Corner (really cool Henry James story, also about missed opportunity, specifically a dissolute ex-pat fighting his mean and greedy remained-in-America-sona)
Audition (nasty Japanese time-bendy anti-romance)
The Uninvited (40s movie with a very similar ghost effect to Personal Shopper; I watched it twice and enjoyed the second time more since there's a big twist that reframes everything; saddest ghost crying I've ever heard)
Rope (the gay Hitchcock one; makes me want to see a stage production where the Jimmy Stewart character is actually fruity)
Train to Busan (fun and emotional Korean zombie movie with a kinda stupid ending)
Blade (90s comic book vampire movie with the Volturi if they were Protestant)
Hellboy (romantic and transgender-ish comic book movie from 2004)
Perfect Blue (90s anime movie that predicted internet parasocial relationships; very good but I have some beef with it)
Never Open That Door (50s Argentine anthology movie that goes great with Black Sabbath and Shadow of a Doubt)
Dead of Night (40s British anthology movie with a brilliant framing device)
The Phantom of the Monastery (30s Mexican movie that really understands how horrifyingly effective Catholicism is at preserving stuff)
Eyes of Laura Mars (faboo 70s fashion slasher with another psychic connection)
Nosferatu (rewatched with the Radiohead soundtrack being shown at indie theaters, I thought it was awesome)
Madonna (Junji Ito vs Catholicism feat. pillars of salt)
An American Werewolf in London (very funny Landis movie with a really annoying romance)
The Alter of the Dead (Henry James anti-romance with a kinda weak ending)
The Ruins (silly plant horror movie that feels like the Hunger Games extended universe)
The Ruins (I preferred the movie because the plants just get too smart in the book)
Darth Plagueis (Star Wars at its coldest and meanest!)
Let the Right One In (creative Swedish vampire movie with some great ideas and some really stupid ones)
Hell Followed With Us (ig I'm too old for YA, but I appreciated the representation)
Don't Look Under the Bed (the scariest DCOM; pretty fun lore)
The Legend of Hell House (horny 70s movie that keeps turning me off then winning me back, feat. Peter Cushing's Van Helsing's boyfriend Michael Gough)
The Happening (the Shyamalan that's bad ... on purpose?)
Friday the 13th (fun to watch but man it is not good)
Practical Magic (frustrating cozy 90s witch movie)
Creature from the Haunted Sea (Corman parody with one or two good jokes: "Little did they know that I, Sparks Moran, was an American agent... My real name was XK150")
Carrie (the boring remake with Ansel Elgort, boo!)
Son of Dracula (dreadful 70s Ringo Starr thing with potentially interesting lore and a kinda iconic blood transfusion scene)
Hearts and Flowers (creepy 1930 stop motion that is pretty cool and imaginative but also racist af)
Absolutely random rant session about my fucked up sleep stuff
Does anyone else have constant nightmares or disturbing dreams?
Like, my only dreams I’ve ever had have always been either terrifying or deeply disturbing. And for the first few years I was definitely terrified in my dreams, but now it’s just a common occurrence and feels like a “yeah this is fine and normal” moment in my dreams. The only times I get the feeling it’s a nightmare is when it gets super weird and disturbing and then I have to force myself awake.
Does it even count as a nightmare if I’m not scared??
Idk how to explain this phenomenon but like I have so many strange dreams that reoccur in the same sort of way I can make categories for it
+ dreams where I’m being chased or running from something/ someone
+ dreams where my environment is rapidly changing
+dreams where I have multiple dreams back to back that are wildly different
+ dreams of body horror like I had a dream of someone i loved being covered in moss, another time they were a rotting corpse, sometimes it’s acne based, a lot of the time it’s me hiding from someone who’s literally about to die in horrific ways. (I recently had a dream where a woman got surgery and it all split open and it sickened me so bad I had to stay up for an hour before I could fall back asleep at like 3 am)
+dreams where I die
+an amalgamation of all that
I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever had a “good” dream.
Like most ppl have dreams about going to work, being embarrassed, finding the love of their lives, their teeth falling out, etc.
Mine is being in a jumbled up rubix cube of an environment where I’m at school, but it’s not my school visually, but one room is from my school and my school is also a hospital now and I have to go to class but oh someone is getting throwing up their guts and oh now I’m in my house and my mom who’s not really my mom is hunting me down and I have to run away through the woods that are near my house but I don’t have woods near my house and now I’m at a haunted house and being stalked by creepy dolls— and on and on and on.
Once I had a dream I was in a church chapel and it was like the 1600s and it was a church but also acted as like a courthouse and I was watching someone’s trial where they were getting sentenced to beheading and then it randomly flipped and I was pulled from the crowd as the offender somehow and I had the most realistic, terrifying feeling of actual death when I realized I was going to die and a blade came down and I didn’t feel any pain rlly but everything when black and my head dropped in the basket and I remember still being concious but everything was muffled and my brain was all fuzzy and then I woke up. I was genuinely so sick to my stomach after waking up. It’s hard to describe the feeling other than I literally felt what it feels like to accept death and it’s horrific.
I’m just curious if this happens to anyone else.
I haven’t tried anything to prevent these dreams, I kinda feel like I can’t anymore even if I did try everything in the book. It’s why I’ve been trying so hard to learn how to lucid dream because I want to be able to feel safe and comfortable when I’m in a dream. And like technically I do because when I’m in my dreams I’m usually like an entire separate person (whether I look like me or not) kinda like a video game. So it’s “normal” to me in the dream. But obviously, it’s not comfortable in the way I want it to be.
If anyone has any tips on how to calm down my dreams a least a little bit pls drop it in notes because I’m desperate atp.
Sorry for the random rant but I find dreams so fascinating in general and this has been bothering me for days because they always spike up sometimes and turn into actual nightmares and I’ve been getting that recently. I hope this was actually interesting to people who did read this atrocious yap session.
I see u and I appreciate u 🫶
I actually have tons of dreams I remember pretty well if anyone wants to hear me specifically talk about all my weird dreams. I do keep a dream journal but it’s not consistent at all and sometimes I’m either too tired to write down the dream or too terrified of it to recall so there are some I don’t remember at all or it’s hard for me to talk abt in detail.
Even describing some of them in text gives me chills.
I Am Made of Death review
Tumblr media
5/5 stars Recommended if you like: horror, ASL rep, monsters in the night, heiress x bodyguard
Big thanks to Netgalley, Scholastic Press, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is the third book set in the world of The Whispering Dark/Your Blood, My Bones. You can read any of the books without having read the others, they're really just companion novels where someone will mention a character from another book or they'll show up for a couple of scenes. I for one am hoping we get more books set in this world. Maybe a team-up, or maybe just a new character story like usual, lol
I'm shocked, shocked I tell you (and pleased), to find a horror book featuring a ballet dancer that does not make the ballet world out to be monstrous and vicious. It was nice to have a dancer character in a horror book enjoy dancing and find it pleasurable and freeing. I do wish ballet played a bigger role in the story though, especially since it seems to be one of the few times Vivienne feels at ease.
Vivienne is a complex character who's reached her breaking point and is absolutely desperate to be rid of the thing inhabiting her body alongside her. The same thing that turns her voice to poison and that reflects back a different girl in the mirror. Vivienne definitely feels trapped, and at times she very much is. Her solution is to go to the extreme to try and fix what's happening, be that extremely mean to push people away for their safety or to the extremes of her own physical safety to remedy the situation of her...passenger. Despite outward appearances and behaviors, Vivienne actually cares very deeply and yearns for connection, but she's also terrified of it at the same time.
There was a lot of mystery and build-up around what Vivienne was harboring inside her, and I like that we never get a fully solid answer to the question. Some of the characters call it a demon, but 'demon' seems to encompass a number of different things in this series' world, so it's not an overly descriptive category. I also thought a certain scene at the end was super interesting and liked the way Vivienne's passenger interacted/reacted in that scene.
Thomas needs money badly and so, despite his misgivings, he's willing to put up with the Farrows' weirdness and Vivienne's cruelty in order to help make ends meet. He's definitely out of his depth from the get-go, but he tries his best to first get along with Vivienne, and then to just not get fired. Thomas has a big heart and so as soon as he gets the faintest hint that something's wrong with Vivienne, he's immediately invested in trying to help her, no matter how much she pushes him away. I have to say, his dedication to helping others is admirable, if at times a little risky and stupid. Thomas also tends to think of himself as someone who has to solve problems on his own, and it was nice to see other people going to bat for him and the people he cared about. It was a nice reminder to him that he's not alone.
There were quite a few side characters in this one, both new and old. On the new side we have Reed, an art college friend of Vivienne's who helped her get in contact with someone who theorized surgical exorcism. Hudson is a long-time friend of Vivienne's who ends up getting wrapped into the whole mess. I definitely think there's potential for a Reed x Hudson book next. Then there's Jesse. Poor Jesse, who definitely got manipulated by Vivienne and couldn't back out, but who, at the same time, I think wanted to know if his theories were possible, no matter what happened. Both Reed and Jesse are involved in the House of Hades, a secret society obsessed with the supernatural. We also get to meet both Vivienne's and Thomas' families, the latter of whom were more likeable and lovable than the former.
The House of Hades definitely intrigued me. More than just obsessed with the supernatural, the society actively seeks it out and investigate strange goings-on. The House references some of the supernatural goings-on of the other two books and it was such a fun little Easter egg to see those references. It also definitely hints to something larger going on behind the scenes.
In terms of returning characters, Lane and Cole are both in this one, along with Eric (whom I don't remember but I'm sure was in The Whispering Dark). It was definitely a treat to get Lane and Cole for more than just one scene this time around. I enjoyed seeing how they've changed since TWD and the ways they interact with one another as well as the overall magical world. Cole is still an asshole, but at least he's not mean anymore. It was also a nice surprise to get a little more background on him and, honestly? No wonder he was such a dick in TWD.
Overall I enjoyed this book and the characters. Thomas and Vivienne are both complex and stuck in difficult situations, but they're able to fight their way through it by relying on others. This book is a standalone but there are two 'companion' novels with Easter eggs in this book.
Guilty Gal bedroom headcanons
Compiled my sex headcanons for the Guilty Gear ladies for fun, obviously this isn't all of them, it's the ones for Strive as well as the other ones I like the most
And like these aren't super in-depth or set in stone, they're just how I imagine em and what I think they like!
Ramlethal
-Service top
-Typically focuses on making sure her partner is taken care of
-Sex and intimacy are still something new to her so she enjoys receiving directions
-Not very picky when it comes to positions
-Really likes praise, but on the occasions where she bottoms she likes the sensory experience of temperature play
Elphelt
-Bottom
-Pillow Princess!!! Her darling should be so head over heels for her that they're willing to spoil her!
-That said, it's not like she won't put in the work when she needs to. A relationship is a partnership of equals, after all!
-Any position where she gets to look into her lover's eyes is a winner in her book
-LOOOOVES a good roleplay, she's got so many scenarios ready to go!
Dizzy
-Service Top
-Very unselfish lover, she will make sure her partner enjoys themself as much as she does
-Constant words of affirmation, telling her partner how pretty they are and how good they are
-Similar to Elphelt, loves any position where she gets to look her partner in the eyes
-Obviously good at praise and body worship, can also use her tail to great effect
May
-Top
-A lot of energy, can go for a while before she suddenly crashes
-Likes making her partner feel good!
-Handy with a strap but she can ride like the wind
-Enjoys sex in unconventional places, although not necessarily public
Giovanna
-Switch
-Very casual approach to sex, won't make a big deal or show out of asking her partner about it
-Likes being dominated but is willing to show a less experienced partner how it's done
-Lover her partner being on top of her but also likes oral a lot
-Semi-public sex is fun for her, she likes the risk
Millia
-Bottom
-Yeah I know she seems like a top at first glance but to me I think she's the type where at the end of the day she wants to be able to surrender control to someone who will make her feel good and take care of her
-That said she'll take charge and direct her partner if she needs to (her powers come in real handy here)! She can be a bit picky
-Loves being tied up, knowing that she can easily break out of it if she needs to
I-No
-Switch (girl's done it all)
-Sex, on top of being fun, is a distraction from The Horrors so her partner had better be ready to go at a moment's notice
-Definitely a selfish lover, she's more focused on her own pleasure, but with her prowess her partner typically ends up satisfied
-Anything's good by her but she'll typically go for positions where she has some control, like cowgirl
-She'll do pretty much anything but definitely has a sadistic/masochistic streak
Baiken
-Typically tops but a little more willing to bottom than you might think
-For her sex is more a physical need to fulfill so don't expect a lot in the way of romance or foreplay
-That said she's not selfish, she'll make sure her partner gets off too
-Likes it rough, so she'll gladly be on either end of doggy style
-She can dish out insults and take em too, so someone's gonna be bratty in this equation
Jack-O
-Switch
-Now that she's her own person, she's figuring out her likes and dislikes
-Her more energetic and silly personality has her more like a pillow princess, while her more reserved and insightful persona has her more willing to put in work
-Very flexible so she's a fan of having her legs over her partner's shoulders, being put in a press, etc.
-Likes experimenting but definitely very partial to using food in the bedroom (sweets of course!)
Bridget
-Bottom
-Struggles with dysphoria so if she's comfortable enough with her partner to be naked around them, that really means something
-You have to call her "good girl." You Have To
-She likes giving and receiving oral the most, but hey, she's got a nice butt too! Won't say no to getting fucked from behind
-She enjoys some light bondage, in a more established relationship she could maybe get into petplay
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE EVAN ROSIER HEADCANONS
(ive been asking everyone because he's slowly becoming my favourite)
just now realising you asked this nearly a month ago i'm so sorry i don't know why i struggle with answering asks so much!! but anyways evan headcanons i will GLADLY give. my characterisation of him is less concrete than characters like barty or regulus but i think about him loads still i love him...
this is a classic ofc but i will always see him and pandora as twins!! i love siblings in media so much and i think it allows for suuupper interesting dynamics between them, even in canon
in muggle aus my go-to career for him is either a piercer or something in the medical science field. i can just picture him as this mildly off-putting medsci student who goes on to be a forensic pathologist or something, he's really intrigued by the human body and how it functions in various ways. could definitely also go the way of unlicensed surgeon or mad scientist who performs fucked up experiments on people but that sort of thing doesn't quite fit into every fic lmaoo
i've always thought of him as more of a piercings guy than a tattoo guy (which is the opposite to barty). he'd definitely have both but i associate him more with piercings if that makes sense? i imagine he'd have a labret, bridge, stretched lobes (~7/8"), stretched septum (~0g), eyebrows (normal and middle placements), and high nostrils. all symmetrical!! plus probably some other non-facial piercings
he'd love sci-fi, thriller, and horror (especially psychological) films. anything super tense and probably confusing
when he was a child he and pandora would trap and kill insects. they'd spend ages examining little bug bodies and dissecting them with sticks and stuff... as he grew older he became more and more interested in bigger animals. occasionally he would kill animals himself but more often he'd search for those already dead, especially roadkill. once he was finished with any given specimen he'd carefully remove, clean, and reconstruct their skeletons to give to pandora. she didn't like the organs stuff as much as he did but she loved collecting bones and taxidermy insects, in exchange one year for his birthday (10-14th, maybe) she spent ages searching to buy him a surgical set from an antique store
waaay scarier than barty. if you don't know them you might be more initially scared by barty but while barty is loud and crazy and violent and laughs at pain/danger, evan is creepy. he knows way a million and one ways to kill someone without leaving behind any evidence. he knows every single pressure point on the human body. someone mentions a medicine they've taken their whole life for the first time and when someone else asks what it is he can explain in minute detail exactly how it works to the point where not even the person who takes it knew even half of what he says. he's super quiet moving without even meaning to be so he scares the shit out of people all the time. he doesn't blink as often as he should but just often enough that you don't notice until you're paying attention. and this is all revealed gradually, whereas barty's most "scary" traits are purposefully the most surface level things about him
he loooves medical dramas. he's watched tons of them. he HATES the good doctor though, purely on principle because once someone said that must be his favourite because he's autistic. his actual favourite is house
he runs cold and NEVER wears shorts. lots of beanies and jackets
these were so random and i went on a few tangents but oh well i did like five other things between writing these so it's a bit of a mess LMAO
this is a very silly question, but what is endosoma? i've seen it tossed around here and there but i haven't seen an explanation
also, why do some character names have slashes (the /) in them?
Hi! It's okay, it gets a little confusing around here sometimes.
Endosoma is a concept similar to vore, but not quite as specific. It's about being inside of another person's body, but includes all Kinds of parts of the body, not just the digestive system-- heart, lungs, nerves, muscles, you name it! All vore is endosoma, but not all endosoma is vore, sort of like the rectangle/square type deal. It's very popular in "vore-type" media, especially from the late 1990s and 2000s, to use endosoma instead of vore since endosoma can be more exploratory, alien, and strange. It's also definitely less close to sexual-- after all, usually people are much smaller in endosoma and are inside of ships or similar things, so it's not as easy to push into the whole person on person dynamic. Think Innerspace, Magic School Bus, Fantastic Voyage, etc.! But there are types of endosoma where it Is just someone in the body instead of utilizing some ship, more popular with non-human anthropomorphized settings where parts of the body are actually little people running things, and those parts can be really cool too.
Endosoma is hard to come by due to the mass popularization of using endosoma as a catch-all term for safe vore, despite safe vore having its own terms already. This means that actually finding real endosoma content that isn't Just Vore is super hard to come by, and that's part of why I've been advocating so hard for people to separate the tags and only tag endosoma if it's beyond just the stomach/mouth situation (even though vore Does count as endo). It just makes it so hopefully we'll not be trying to find a needle in a hay stack anytime anyone wants to talk about endosoma specifically, AND ensures that people that might be triggered by this more body-horror-accommodating concept don't accidentally come across it while trying to go through their usual interests.
Some people use slashes or other things to break up names of characters directly from outside media that is not vore related, because Tumblr will automatically group those in with the *normal tags for that show/game/etc.*, leading to people finding the vore who were NOT wanting to see it. By putting the dashes and other separations in the way, Tumblr doesn't screw up the search system, and it's safer! Of course, I don't typically do that with my stuff because Getting In Deep is a vore centered story, and anyone looking for it is obviously going to be comfortable with vore to some extent that they will Expect it to show up. Same with OCs-- not that my OCs are usually vore centric, but. You know. Nobody's gonna be searching for them so they won't get surprised by it, which means there's no need to break up the names.
I hope that answers your questions!!
